A Simple
Process and Divine
Rules
Give instruction to a wise
man, and he will be yet wiser:
teach a just man, and he will
increase in learning.
Proverbs
Christian Science is a simple,
scientific system of metaphysics
used by practitioners throughout
the world. It is the same process
used by Jesus in the healing of
sin, disease and death. The
teaching of this system begins
with an understanding of the
basic tenets and rules set forth
in the Christian Science
textbook, "Science and Health
with Key to the Scriptures" by
Mary Baker Eddy, the
Discoverer and Founder of
Christian Science.
She writes: "To mortal
sense Christian Science seems
abstract, but the process is
simple and the results are sure
if the Science is understood. The
tree must be good, which produces
good fruit. Guided by divine
Truth and not guesswork, the
theologus (that is, the student
the Christian and
scientific expounder of
the divine law) treats disease
with more certain results than
any other healer on the globe.
The Christian Scientist should
understand and adhere strictly to
the rules of divine metaphysics
as laid down in this work, and
rest his demonstration on this
sure basis." (p. 459)
Further, in the same chapter,
Mrs. Eddy writes: "Systematic
teaching and the student's
spiritual growth and experience
in practice are requisite for a
thorough comprehension of
Christian Science. Some
individuals assimilate truth more
readily than others, but any
student, who adheres to the
divine rules of Christian Science
and imbibes the spirit of Christ,
can demonstrate Christian
Science, cast out error, heal the
sick, and add continually to his
store of spiritual understanding,
potency, enlightenment, and
success." (pp. 461, 462)
Following the example set
forth by Mrs. Eddy, Christian
Science teachers instruct
students using her classbook,
contained in Science and Health
under the chapter title,
"Recapitulation."
Christian Science Today
